How Programs Can Lead to New Possibilities
Internships aren't the only way to get real early career experience. Sometimes all it takes is a single day inside a company, a few weeks shadowing a professional, or a short externship to spark new interests and change how you see your future. Through our Network of Employer Partners, Advisees are finding that these early career programs open doors they never knew were there.
Karena Gau got a behind-the-scenes look at an entire company at Medline's Discovery Days, a two-day immersive career exploration program. She shared that the experience "…gave me a firsthand look at how distinct departments—from Quality Engineering and Product Management to IT—operate in their own unique areas while all working toward Medline's shared mission of delivering medical supplies efficiently. Coming from a computer science background, I was especially inspired by Medline's innovative work in AI and the invaluable advice I received from Medline professionals. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to see such a passionate, supportive company culture in action!"
Hafsa Sheikh already knew she was interested in marketing, and MERGE's two-week Shadow Program showed her what the work really looks like. Of the experience, she shared, "I gained many insights into the marketing industry. I shadowed the Senior VP of Client Services, and it was very interesting to see her day-to-day. The MERGE atmosphere was very welcoming and collaborative, and I highly recommend this opportunity to other students interested in learning more about the behind-the-scenes."
Ruby Moran took a chance on something unfamiliar, and it paid off. Through AscentUP's externship program, she rediscovered a career path she had written off. Reflecting on the program, she shared, "AscentUP was a great learning experience. It took me out of my bubble and pushed me to learn skills outside of what I was used to. It was such a good experience that it made me reconsider consulting as a potential career when I hadn't given it thought in years."
