National First-Generation College Celebration Week
Join us in celebrating the first-generation college graduate community!
Every year, CareerSpring joins colleges, employers, and communities nationwide to celebrate first-generation college students and graduates: the determination that got them here, and the futures they're building.
Every first-gen student has a story: the first college application in the family, the late-night shifts between classes, the first internship offer, the moment it all started to feel possible. This year, we're putting those stories front and center, along with the stories of the Advisors, Employer Partners, and Education Partners who help write the next chapter.
What is First-Gen College Celebration Week?
National First-Generation College Celebration Day takes place every November 8th, the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which opened doors to college for millions of students from low-income backgrounds. Since 2017, institutions across the country have used the day, and now the whole week around it, to honor first-generation students and the contributions they make in their communities and workplaces.
Since our founding in 2020, CareerSpring has celebrated the day every year. It is our biggest moment to raise awareness of first-gen and low-income (FGLI) students, and it is our one annual fundraising campaign.

The Connection Lab: Speed Networking in STEM
Join CareerSpring and Ionis for a special virtual speed networking event!
We believe that networking is among the most effective career development and job-search techniques. While our Platform already connects you with Advisors, this event is a unique opportunity to network with a group of professionals from Ionis, a biotechnology company, and fellow Advisees. Our goal is to create a welcoming space that makes networking easy and stress-free, with fun, short prompts that bring members of our Network together.

Who is this event for?
This event is for CareerSpring Advisees interested in practicing their networking skills, as well as connecting with professionals and fellow Advisees.
A range of professionals from Ionis will join as volunteers to help Advisees practice their networking skills and share insights from their careers, including careers in STEM and beyond.
How does it work?
Attendees will be asked a variety of career-related questions and then placed into randomized breakout rooms with a mix of Advisees and Ionis volunteers. Each breakout room will run for a set number of minutes, giving participants the chance to share their responses and connect. Our goal is to create a welcoming but structured event that makes it easy to network.

The Personal Pitch Lab: Knowing Your Story & Telling It Well
"So, tell me about yourself..." It's one of the most common questions in interviews, career fairs, and networking events, and it's one of the hardest to answer on the spot.
Join CareerSpring and volunteers from Ionis, a biotechnology company, for a hands-on virtual workshop to build and practice your personal elevator pitch. The CareerSpring team will walk you through a simple, step-by-step framework for telling your story. Then you'll move into small breakout groups to practice your pitch with Ionis professionals and get real-time feedback.

Understanding Money: Financial Literacy Workshops

This interactive session breaks down the basics of personal finance in a clear, judgment-free way. We’ll cover key topics like budgeting, saving, credit, and debt, and help you build confidence making financial decisions now and in the future.

CareerSpring FORWARD Info Session for Community & Education Partners
CareerSpring's FORWARD Program gives our Advisees a paid, three-week internship the summer before their sophomore or junior year. This experiential program gives them real industry exposure, mentorship, and a capstone project that builds the confidence and career-ready skills.
This session is built for our Education and Community Partners, and will focus on how the recruitment and referral process works, so you can help identify and prepare the right students to apply.

CareerSpring is teaming up with Merit America to share the opportunity for Houston-area our Network a free professional headshot at their in-person community event.
Drop in any time between 4:00 and 8:00 PM and leave with a polished photo you can use right away on LinkedIn, Handshake, job applications, and anywhere else you want to put your best foot forward. Each attendee will receive four free high-res headshots.
Tips for your photo: Wear what you'd wear to an interview in your field. Solid colors usually photograph better than busy patterns. Arrive a few minutes early to settle in.

We work to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks and provide guidance and effective second line challenges to business units across the firm and Group Companies.
Brand Marketing and Events
The Brand Marketing and Events Team is responsible for the creation and implementation of the brand market strategy, messaging and all elements associated with the brand. The team also plans and executes “best-in-class” client events and manages hospitality.
Corporate Communications
The Communications Team develops and deploys strategic plans that guide internal employee communications, media relations, social media, and SMBC Americas Division’s internal and external websites to raise the bank’s profile and support its business goals.
