Advisee Spotlight: David Alamu
Building a career takes more than a strong resume. It takes opportunities to gain experience, people who can offer guidance, and relationships that help you navigate what comes next. For CareerSpring Advisee David Alamu, those connections have been a vital part of his journey.
A Computer Information Systems major at CUNY Baruch College, David first connected with CareerSpring after our Education Partner Genesys Works NYC introduced him to our resources. He began using our Career Platform to explore opportunities, connect with Advisors, and build relationships that could support him throughout his career journey.
David’s CareerSpring journey began with our FORWARD Internship Program in 2024, when he interned with the Metropolitan Golf Association. The experience gave him an early opportunity to apply what he was learning in the classroom, gain hands-on professional experience, and build confidence in his skills. Since then, David has continued to engage with us in multiple ways, connecting with Advisors who helped him strengthen both his professional skills and mindset, and working with Candidate Coaches to prepare for new opportunities. He shared, “Being able to connect with Advisors who helped me grow both my professional skills and my mindset was huge, and it wasn't a one-time thing; the guidance continued along the way.”
Through Candidate Coaching, David completed working sessions for resume reviews and interview preparation, helping him approach his next opportunity with greater confidence. That preparation ultimately helped him secure a Supplier Development & Performance Management Internship with Merck. He shared, “I landed my internship by leveraging the working sessions CareerSpring facilitated, things like resume reviews and interview prep. Those sessions gave me the tools I needed to actually walk into the process prepared and confident.”
David’s story reflects what career development can look like when our Advisees have access to support that extends beyond a single program or interaction. From gaining hands-on experience through FORWARD, to building relationships with Advisors, to preparing for new opportunities with Candidate Coaches, each experience can build on the last.
