Charles Schwab Volunteers Share Industry Advice for Advisees

CareerSpring Advisees from across the country recently came together with Charles Schwab professionals for “Pathways to Success: Career Journeys with Charles Schwab Professionals,” an engaging volunteer experience centered on one of the most valuable things our Network can offer: a chance to learn directly from someone who has already gone through that transition from school to work.

Charles Schwab volunteers kicked off the event by sharing an overview of their business and the many roles that make their organization work. From there, volunteers opened up about their own journeys from college to career, giving Advisees an honest look at the choices, experiences, and unexpected turns that can shape someone’s professional path early on. 

For many volunteers, those personal conversations were the heart of the experience. Faye Dean, Director Corporate Compliance, shared, “It was amazing and frankly sweet to see these eager, smart, yet timid faces on screen wanting to engage but not sure how. It was great to hear their questions, engage in dialogue and see them relax just a bit. Combined with Charles Schwab corporately investing in the development and recruitment of early talent, this volunteer opening aligned with my personal passion and our corporate culture.”

As the event moved into small-group networking, the conversation shifted to being more personal and interactive. For Lael Dickinson, Sr. Manager, Retail Learning and Development, the opportunity was a chance to return to something she had always valued: helping students and early-career professionals learn and grow. She shared, “I know what it's like to not have someone who shares your experience. My hope was to connect with young adults and let them know it's ok to have a different path and maybe provide some insight or advice that might help.” 

The impact didn't end when the event did. Three Charles Schwab volunteers who participated have since joined our Advisor Network, choosing to continue giving their time and experience to support Advisees through our Platform. That is the kind of lasting impact we hope to create through our Network. One conversation can build confidence, open a door, and lead to an ongoing relationship between a student and a professional who is willing to invest in their future.
