Advisee Spotlight: Maria Torres
Advisee Maria Torres, a psychology major at Rutgers University, was introduced to CareerSpring through Ambassador Amber Sanchez. Upon exploring our Platform, she quickly found career guidance, opportunities, and a newfound confidence. Maria shared, “Seeing how accessible and supportive CareerSpring was especially for first-generation and low-income students like me made me want to take full advantage of the resources. The willingness of everyone wanting to help and be a guide felt so reassuring and it felt like a space designed to help students succeed.”
While initially drawn to the opportunities from our Network of Employer Partners, she realized there was so much more to the Platform, utilizing our Candidate Coaching program, and staying in close contact with our Job Placement team while she applied to internships. “The one-on-one guidance helped me refine my resume, improve my interviewing skills, and gain clarity on my career path… CareerSpring played a huge role in helping me feel more confident and prepared throughout my career journey.”
With tenacity, Maria ultimately secured a Human Resources internship with VDA Elevator & Escalator Consulting. “My internship experience gave me real-world exposure to the type of work I could see myself doing long-term…It helped me understand my strengths, more importantly, it confirmed my interests and gave me direction.”
Her story doesn’t end there: Maria’s internship then converted into a full-time role with VDA. After her graduation in December 2025, Maria began a new year as a Human Resources Generalist.
