Advisee Spotlight: Juan Cadavid

Juan Cadavid, a Finance major with a minor in Quantitative Finance at Stevens Institute of Technology, turned his curiosity and drive into opportunity through the CareerSpring Network. Juan knew that when looking for an internship, having strong communication skills was important, so he stayed persistent— regularly checking for new opportunity postings, being responsive via email, and seeking advice from the CareerSpring Team. Through these efforts, Juan secured a Finance Intern role with VDA Elevator & Escalator Consulting.

This experience allowed him to learn the ins-and-outs of VDA, which is a portfolio company of Employer Partner Keystone Capital. This exposure piqued an interest in private equity. Juan shared, “I gained a better understanding of private equity and the collaboration between VDA and Keystone. Over the summer, I developed a stronger interest in corporate finance and the exciting world of private equity.” Juan was fortunate enough to be surrounded by a team that fostered his curiosity and helped him gain a better understanding of corporate finance and private equity.

Upon reflection of his experience using CareerSpring, Juan shared, “What inspired me is the tremendous impact CareerSpring has had on my career in such a short amount of time. Not only did CareerSpring help me secure an internship, but having access to Advisors has been beneficial for understanding my personal and career goals, and about the many career paths in finance.” With this passion, Juan has joined CareerSpring’s College Ambassador Leadership Program and will help us spread the word about our free resources to FGLI students on his campus and in his community.

Juan’s journey reflects not only his professional growth, but also the power of paying it forward. His advice to other FGLI students and CareerSpring Advisees is to “…reach out to Advisors, as it is a great way to connect with professionals who are accessible, willing to help, and committed to supporting the [CareerSpring] mission… in [this] supportive community there’s always someone who can guide you in the right direction. At the end of the day the resources are there, but it’s up to students to dedicate that time.”

If you have FGLI students and alumni, encourage them to explore the CareerSpring Platform to see all the resource that we have to offer! Learn more about partnership at www.CareerSpring.org.
