Their experience, passion, and commitment to equity in career access will help power our mission for first-generation and/or low-income students (FGLI) forward across the nation.

Gorick Ng
Gorick Ng is the Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author of The Unspoken Rules: Secrets to Starting Your Career Off Right, a book published by Harvard Business Review Press.
It is a guide to help professionals, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, take control of their careers, based on 500+ interviews with professionals across geographies, industries, and job types.
Gorick is a career adviser at Harvard College, specializing in coaching first-generation, low-income students. He is also on the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, where he teaches the unspoken rules of career navigation.
He has worked in management consulting at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), investment banking at Credit Suisse, and research with the Managing the Future of Work project at Harvard Business School.
He has been featured in The Today Show, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed, New York Post, Fast Company, and CNBC. He was named by Thinkers50 as one of 30 thinkers to watch in 2022. Gorick, a first-generation college student, is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.
Judi Powell, Ph.D.
Founder and Principal of Seven Hills Philanthropy, consults with foundations and nonprofits on strategy development, research, and grantmaking program design and implementation. As a philanthropic leader with more than 20 years of experience as a foundation executive, grantmaker, consultant, and researcher, Judi is recognized for her ability to analyze nonprofit capacity, synthesize and communicate complex ideas and information, and convene stakeholders to generate solutions to complex problems for social impact.
Throughout her career, Judi’s passion for community change has centered on improving conditions for young people. She brings an equity focus to her work which spans issue areas, including K-12 education, college access and completion, safety net, and the environment.
As Executive Vice President of Philanthropic Partnerships at Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Judi led the teams that guide individual, family and corporate donors. Prior to that role, she served as Vice President of Program and Strategic initiatives at Pacific Foundation Services, where she directed programmatic services for all family foundation clients. Judi’s earlier work with foundations and nonprofits included facilitation of strategic conversations that resulted in theories of change and strategic frameworks and workplans.
Judi’s current and past community work includes serving on the Boards of Samaritan House of San Mateo, the San Mateo Public Library Foundation, and Friends for Youth. She received her B.A. in Economics & Political Science from Yale University and her Ph.D. from the Stanford Graduate School of Education. She lives in San Mateo, CA, with her husband and is the proud mother of two college graduates who are beginning their own professional journeys.
Stuart W. Staley
Stuart Staley is an Independent Non-executive Director with UK-listed financial services firm TP ICAPGroup, where he serves as the Americas workforce engagement lead and is a member of the Risk, Remuneration, and Nominations & Governance Committees.
Before retiring in 2023, Stuart spent 20 years with Citi where he served most recently as Global Head of Citi’s Foreign Exchange business based in New York. Prior to this role, Stuart was based in Singapore as Regional Head of Citi’s Markets & Securities Services businesses across Asia. Stuart joined Citi to lead the organic build of Citi’s commodities business, serving as Global Head of the business in London. Under his leadership, Citi Commodities achieved a leading position in the industry and was recognized by Energy Risk Magazine as Derivatives House of the Year during four consecutive years from 2014 – 2017.
Before joining Citi, Stuart spent two years with AEP Energy Services Ltd. in London where he was CEO and led the company’s European generation, trading and marketing businesses. Prior to this role, Stuart spent six years with Enron, where he helped to build the company’s energy trading businesses in North America, Europe and Asia.
Stuart holds a B.A. with Honors in Chemistry from Williams College, and an MBA and a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Yale University.
