Advisee Spotlight: Bismark Akoto
At CareerSpring, we prioritize the importance of access for our Advisees. Through our Career Platform, we open doors for thousands of FGLI Advisees by providing the professional networks, guidance, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive in their careers. How Advisees navigate through these resources is guided by their personal career goals. For Advisee Bismark Akoto, an FGLI student at Thomas College studying Digital Media, his focus was on looking for guidance in his career journey from real-world professionals.
Bismark was seeking out a space where he could have actual conversations with professionals in his field, ask them questions, and learn from their experiences. Through a Google search, he came across CareerSpring. Bismark tapped into our Advisor Network immediately, by scheduling meetings with Advisors in a variety of professions. Bismark shared, “The Platform is a hidden gem for FGLI students. It gives you real access to real people who want to see you win. If you ever feel like you’re navigating your career alone, this is the space that will change that. The support is genuine, the tools are practical, and the community is inspiring.”
For any FGLI exploring and applying to internship and job opportunities, connection and insights can be key factors as they navigate through applications and interviews. Bismark shares, “I’ve connected with eight different advisors so far, and each conversation has been insightful and encouraging. I’ve already started applying their advice, and I’m seeing the difference.”
One of the Advisors Bismark met with was Chip Peck, the VP of Talent Acquisition at RPA, who shared that, “Bismark and I had a great conversation. He came with curiosity and a desire to learn about how to be effective in his career search strategy. He asked great questions and shared an openness to learning new ideas and ways to be successful.”
Curiosity is a strength not often talked about. Early in someone’s career, no one expects them to know the answers to everything. We continue to encourage our Advisees to be curious, ask questions, and make connections. They never know where one conversation might take them. There are hundreds of Advisors available for our Advisees to meet with, and resources to make networking easy for them—especially if it’s their first time!
